In this video, PacificSource Well-being Program Manager Sabrina Black shares tips to promote good digestive health and a quick tropical fruit smoothie recipe that’s simple and gut friendly.

This easy, delicious smoothie makes a nutrient-packed breakfast or snack. It provides a good balance of carbohydrates from the fruit, fats and protein from the yogurt and chia seeds, plus prebiotics, probiotics, fiber, and digestive enzymes.

Tropical Fruit Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • ½ cup fresh spinach or other dark leafy greens
  • ¼ cup plain, unsweetened yogurt (Greek, regular, or a plant-based version)
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/3 frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen, chopped papaya
  • ½ cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • ½ cup ice

Directions

  1. Add ingredients to a blender in the order listed above.
  2. Blend until smooth, adding more water as needed to reach desired consistency.

4 Tips for digestive health

  1. Eat a variety of foods, particularly whole foods. This gives you lots of options for supporting your digestive health, so get creative and have fun trying different food combinations and recipes!
  2. Think beyond foods—not just what you eat, but how you eat. Try to eat mindfully and slowly.
  3. Listen to your body. Pay attention to how you feel after you eat.
  4. Partner with your doctor if you have digestive health concerns.

Bonus tip: If you’re not getting much fiber in your current diet, incorporate it slowly to avoid digestive discomfort.
