Don’t get too used to those comfy clothes and yoga pants! Because we’ve got a slew of ideas and resources to help get your rear in gear, get your heartrate up, build some strength, and re-energize you.

Physical activity is crazy important (right now, especially) for both our physical and mental health. There’s a reason why even with the social distancing regulations, you’re still encouraged to get outside and go for walks in your neighborhood.

Check out the tips and resources below for multiple ways you can get your sweat on at home. If you’re at the office, find some extra space where you can take even just a few minutes here and there to do something good for your body and your mind.

Tips to get active

  • First, it’s smart to consult your doctor before starting any new fitness program to determine if it is right for your needs.
  • Take time to get outside for physical activity, even if you’re practicing social distancing! Go for a 15-minute walk, hop on your bike, or hike a new trail.
  • Have stairs in your home? Then you’ve got access to one of the world’s best pieces of cardio equipment. Traverse up and down your stairs for 10 minutes straight for a very vigorous workout.
  • Invest in a thick-padded yoga mat. This will provide your back, knees, hands, and elbows a world of comfort when exercising at home. Push-ups, sit-ups, planks, and yoga on a mat will protect your joints as well as your floor.
  • Add a (safe) social element. Practicing social distancing doesn’t mean you have to be socially isolated, especially with physical activity. Call, text, or chat with friends, family, and coworkers to stay accountable with your exercise regimen.
  • Signed up at a gym? Check out your gym or fitness center’s website or social media pages. Many are offering virtual classes, resources, and freebies to keep you active during social distancing.

  • FitnessBlender: With more than 600 videos, you’ll find workouts and challenges, recipes, and more. If you want a little extra, you can check out their membership service, FB Plus, on their website.
  • HASfit: Looking to build strength at home? HASfit is a great option for you! You’ll find plenty of fitness variety using just your bodyweight or equipment like dumbbells and resistance bands.
  • POPSUGAR Fitness: This channel offers a variety of workouts and instructors. You’ll find videos with guest fitness experts and celebrity trainers.
  • Well + Good: At-home barre, HIIT, Pilates, yoga, and—avocados? This is a fun channel for lots of things wellness, including plenty of at-home exercises and workouts. You’ll also find move break-downs, a handy resource for mastering specific exercises.
  • MadFit: Explore Maddie Lymburner’s workout library for a variety of workouts. If you like the workout-to-a-song approach, her Song Workouts playlist might be a good starter! You’ll also find playlists for beginners, partner workouts, and much more.

For yoga enthusiasts and special needs

  • Yoga with Adriene: Enjoy this large database of at-home yoga classes, supporting your emotional well-being with mindfulness and humor. Appropriate for all levels, including beginner yogis. Plus, her pup, Benji, is an adorable yoga buddy!
  • Fightmaster Yoga: If you like workout programs and enjoy the softer yoga tones (that still give your body a good workout), Leslie Fightmaster’s channel has some great options for you.
  • Tone and Tighten: Hosted by a physical therapist and doctor of physical therapy, this channel provides some workouts and information for pain rehabilitation and postpartum conditions.

For the love of dance

  • The Fitness Marshall: Do you prefer to dance, not take yourself too seriously, and only have a few minutes? These dance workouts are set to popular songs, so your workouts can be as long or as short as you have time for.
  • REFITREV: For you dancers out there (or wannabes), here’s another option that lets you choose songs to break a sweat to. But be ready, and don’t stress about getting it perfect—these fun, fast-paced videos make great quick breaks!

For more challenge

  • Millionaire Hoy – HoyPRO: If you’re a seasoned exerciser looking for a little more intensity, you might want to check out Millionaire Hoy’s PRO 500 30-day, 500 calorie challenge. While he doesn’t post as many free videos on YouTube anymore, this is a new, free program averaging about 35 minutes per workout.
  • ATHLEAN-X & ATHLEAN-XX: If you not only want a challenge, but like to know the science behind it, check out these channels. They can help you keep your fitness game top-notch at home, especially if you already have some home-gym equipment.
