Mid-level management is an excellent source to educate employees about your wellness programs because they usually have the most touches on the most employees. These managers can often get on board with helping promote workplace wellness efforts when they see the value in what these programs and services can do to improve employee wellbeing. Here are a few tips to help your managers and coworkers see the importance and value in employee health and wellness:
- Find support. If management is not visibly supporting healthy activities among employees, look for ways that the organization’s mission statement or values support employee health. Present that information when discussing health activities with management to help them connect the dots.
- Loop them in. Keep managers up-to-date about the value of these programs. Help them understand the health risks of the population and why it is important to provide employees with the tools and resources needed for optimal wellbeing.
- Use tools. Give management tools to help them engage their teams in making health a priority. The PacificSource wellness toolkits are great resources you can share with management, and they’re all available online. Also consider providing a wellness calendar, a list of programs, challenges, and features, and employee stories.
- Keep it simple, organized, and direct. When communicating with managers, lead with evidence of organizational support. Is employee health in your mission statement or company values? Is there a member of the executive team that champions the program? Include any metrics you may have on your existing programs. Positive data is a quick way to showcase your program and speak to management on their terms.
